Contrary to the current trend, aqua classes are for all ages and benefit people for various reasons. It is of key significance to note that one of the most popular reasons people take to water is because of the effect that bouyouncy has on the body. The water holds the body up and we are able to workout without putting any strain on our joints. In line with this theory is the fact that as we get older joints get more stiff and mobility becomes less, so it is recommended to work out in an environment where there is minimum impact on the joints. It is also a great place to work when a person is recovering from an injury because of the same reason.
The answer: Aqua Classes and ofcourse why not enjoy the workout even more by joining an AQUA ZUMBA class!
Ok…so lets get to how the heart rate is affected by water. The heart slows by about 17 beats per minute due to the buoyancy of the water so we are looking at a target heart rate that is lower than what our heart rate would be on land. In essence it is also a great place for the healthy individual to work at lowering their resting heart rate by working at just an intense level as they would on land but without putting as much strain on the heart. What a great idea, not only are we working on the heart in a lower target zone which we would not be able to due at a high intensity on land, in addition we are working the muscles harder because of the resistance that the buoyancy of the water creates.
So why not take the plunge, add a water workout to your programme
